About basketbadle

basketbadle is a free daily basketball guessing game made by a small, independent studio of basketball fans, led by Spud — the game's creator and the author of the guides, player lists and arena features you'll find on the blog. It is the basketball member of a little family of daily games that also includes footbadle for football and f1dle for Formula 1. The idea behind all of them is the same: one quick, satisfying puzzle a day, free for everyone, with no account and no clutter.

Why we built it

Daily word and trivia games proved something simple — people love a small, shared ritual. A single puzzle, the same for everyone, that takes a few minutes and gives you something to compare and talk about. We are basketball obsessives, and we wanted that ritual for the sport we love: not one puzzle, but six, each testing a different kind of basketball knowledge. Whether you know players, arenas, career journeys or draft trivia, there is a mode that rewards it.

What makes basketbadle different

• Six modes, one site. Most daily games give you a single puzzle.

basketbadle gives you six distinct challenges every day, from naming a hidden player to spotting an arena to reading a starting lineup with the names stripped away.

• The same puzzle for everyone. Every player in the world gets the identical

daily set, so scores are genuinely comparable and the community counter means something.

• No account, no tracking circus. You do not sign up. Your stats live in

your own browser. We collect as little as possible — see our privacy policy for the full, plain-English details.

• Fresh data. Our rosters and records refresh automatically so the puzzles

keep up with trades, signings and new seasons rather than freezing in time.

Where our data comes from

basketbadle is built on publicly available basketball data. Player and team information comes from TheSportsDB; career histories and records draw on public sources including Wikipedia and the NBA's public statistics. Arena photography is sourced from Wikimedia Commons under free licenses, with full credit given on our attributions page. We are grateful to every photographer and data contributor who makes a project like this possible.

How we research and write our content

We take accuracy seriously, because a guessing game only works if the facts behind it are right.

• Sourcing. The basketball facts behind every puzzle and article — teams,

positions, ages, heights, nationalities, career histories, jersey numbers, retired numbers, records and honours — are compiled from publicly available sources including TheSportsDB, the NBA's public statistics, and reputable basketball reference and media sites. We cross-check details against more than one source wherever we can, and we favour stable, canonical facts (retired numbers, historic records, Hall-of-Famers) that do not go stale.

• Original writing. Every article on the blog is written from scratch by

Spud and reviewed in-house before it is published. They are explainers and opinion by people who watch this sport closely, built on widely reported facts, not copied or spun from other sites.

• Imagery. The photographs that illustrate our articles, and the arena

images in the game, are sourced from Wikimedia Commons under open Creative Commons or public-domain licences, and each photographer is credited on our attributions page. Images may be cropped or resized for display.

• Corrections. Basketball moves fast — rosters change and records fall. When

we get something wrong, we want to fix it: every article and puzzle has a clear route to tell us at our contact page, and we act on corrections quickly.

How basketbadle is funded

basketbadle is free to play and funded by advertising, so we can keep it free for everyone. We use Google AdSense on the web, and we ask for your consent before showing personalised ads where the law requires it. Exactly how we handle data is set out in plain English in our privacy policy.

An independent fan project

basketbadle is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or associated with the NBA or any basketball team, league or governing body. All team names and logos are the property of their respective owners and are used purely for identification. We are fans building something for other fans.
